Reader,

In a world that changes fast, the best teams are not always the smartest or most talented. They are the ones that learn the fastest. Ron Friedman’s recent Harvard Business Review article makes that point clear: superteams keep improving because growth is built into the way they work, not saved for a retreat, a training day, or a crisis.

A few takeaways that stood out to me:

+ Run more experiments. Superteams test, tweak, and try new ideas even when things are going well. Friedman’s research found they experiment nearly 50% more often than average teams.

+ Make curiosity contagious. Great leaders do not pretend to know it all. They ask questions, admit what they do not know, and create space for others to speak up.

+ Ask, “What are you stuck on?” That one question can uncover barriers before they become breakdowns. Superteam leaders are more likely to focus meetings on problems to solve, not polished progress reports.

+ Make feedback feel like support. Feedback works best when it helps people grow, not when it makes them defensive.

+ Lead with meaning. People improve faster when they understand why their work matters. Superteam leaders help people connect the task to the bigger purpose.

What this means for schools, businesses, and organizations:

  • Try one small experiment this month.
  • Change one meeting question to: What are you stuck on?
  • Give quicker, lighter feedback this week.
  • Remind your team why their work matters to the people they serve.

The bottom line is simple:

The best teams do not get better by chance. They get better because growth becomes part of the routine.
