Where Dr. Tom Webb sparks your curiosity and inspires action!

Dear Team Boom,

As a school principal in one of Illinois' top-performing schools, I am privileged to witness the remarkable growth of our students daily. This week, we face a significant decision that reminds me of a pivotal childhood moment: the first time riding a bike without training wheels.

A Milestone Moment

We have a student who has shown such remarkable progress that he may no longer require his Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This decision comes after thorough evaluations and countless hours of dedicated support from our compassionate team, including our school psychologist, social worker, and a particularly devoted teacher.

The Training Wheels Analogy

In a recent discussion, the analogy of removing a child's training wheels came up. Yes, the child might fall. Yes, they might scrape a knee. Yes, there might be setbacks. But what happens next? They get up, they learn, they adapt, and soon enough, they're not just riding; they're soaring down the street popping wheelies!

Embracing the Challenge

This is not just about a bike or a school policy. It's about our approach to education and life. When we remove the training wheels—whether they be literal or metaphorical—we're saying, "I believe in you. I know you can do this." We're committing to run alongside, ready to support, but also ready to let go when the moment is right.

Your Thoughts?

How have you navigated similar transitions, either for yourself or supporting others? What lessons have you learned from seeing the training wheels come off? I encourage you to reply to this email, share your stories, and perhaps inspire others to embrace their next challenge.
